The Anthropological Association of Greece is a scientific society
founded by the initiative of Dr Aris Poulianos in 1971, during hard
times for the scientific research in Greece. One of the most important
reasons of A.A.G. foundation was (and practically still is) the lack
of organized state or other institution promoting anthropological
sciences.
The society goals are concentrated in coordinating the efforts of
everyone interested in collecting data and material on palaeoanthropolgy,
ethnogenesis, ethnology, linguistics, archaeology, archaeometry, palaeontology,
spelaeology, genetics, geology, sociology, statistics, philosophy,
anthropology of current populations, as well as on any relevant scientific
topic.
The study and the elaboration of the scientific material, the announcement
and publication of the results, the organization of lectures and congresses
are mainly planed for the achievement of the above purposes. It regards
also the development of closer international relations with analogous
scientific foreign institutions as well as the collaboration and the
exchange of knowledge between scientific teams.
The Anthropological Association of Greece is a member of the International
Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES) and founding
member of the European Anthropological Association (EAA).
